    Project Lyttelton

A community based charitable Trust working in the Lyttelton/Whakaraupo area of Christchurch, NZ.

We are community catalysts evolving action through community projects on local food, waste, climate change, community education, connection and events and youth projects in dynamic and uncertain times.

Farmers Market

Every Saturday 10 – 1pm        On London Street

Whatever the weather, you'll find fresh fruit and vegetables, free range eggs, bread, meat, fish, cheese, juices, herbs and plants at the Lyttelton Farmers Market every week.

Details of which vendors will be at the market are sent out in the newsletter every Friday afternoon.

And dogs are welcome on a lead & under control...

Community Garden

Every Wednesday 10 am-2 pm to work in the garden

and at 12.30 pm for a shared lunch

The Community Garden looks to grow food for the community, grow connection between people, grow knowledge about the food we eat and about our planet.

With a network of raised beds, worm farms, chickens, composting, propagation in our large glasshouse, and lots of work taking place in the orchard there are always things to see and do in our garden all year.

Accessed via the lane by the swimming pool and up the metal stairs or through gates on St David Street.

The Garage Sale

Lyttelton's Op Shop

Open 10 am-4.00 pm (Summer) 1030am-2.30pm (Winter)  Wednesday to Friday 10.00 am-1.00 pm (Summer) 1030am-1230pm (Winter) Saturday

54 Oxford Street, Lyttelton - up the driveway beside the swimming pool

It is run on the power of volunteers as a social enterprise raising funds on a Saturday for local community groups ad supporting other Project Lyttelton projects.

We aim to recycle and reuse our community’s surplus goods to reduce the amount that would otherwise go to landfill.

The LIFT Library

Resources for Creating a Better World

Open every day from 10am to 3pm at Lyttelton Information Centre, 20 Oxford Street

Lyttelton Emergency Hub

A core group of Volunteers is continuing to train to open the "pop-up Hub" in the event of a disaster that impacts Lyttelton.

Meetings with Civil Defence Community Managers have highlighted the following Key Messages:

  1. Have sufficient food and water for everyone in your house (including pets) to last SEVEN Days
  2. Check gutters and clear debris around your house prior to Summer (hot and Windy Summers are a High Fire Risk). Consider planting Fire Resistant Trees and shrubs around your house.
  3. The best preparation for managing a disaster is Neighbourhood Connection - know your neighbours, know what resources are in your immediate street. Work out ways of managing together if a disaster occurs.
